View Full Version : Animated Sandman - animated fill deform
hi there,
i`m doing an animated version of the sandman...
When i create an animated Sd file and add a fill deform to it, when action is pressed the animation plays but the fill deform does not follow the object.
I test an object emmiter and it follows the object, how does one get a fill emmiter to follow the animated object?
Thanks

The fill emitter fills an object at the first frame or the current frame at which it is rebuilt (by toggling on Fill Volume). So, you can't have it follow the object unless you use an attractor or magic daemon.
An object emitter with a short life (use the kAge daemon) sounds like the way to go. You could also manually rebuild and export single bins out the fill-deform per frame but that might be a little too tedious if you have a long animation. Hope this helps :)
Nice:)
Thank you, pity i wasnt notified of your reply post, so went ahead and made the first part of my sandman in maya, filling the mesh and then switching to the real flow particle fall over sequence when needed.
Unfortunately when i render out this all in MR with batch render i lose the motion blur effect, which in the tut connects RF velocity to the tail size of the particles to fake it. it renders perfect in a still frame but not using batch render.
you guys out there have any solution to this MR batch render problem?
thanks all!

Although this does not pertain to the animation question posed in this discussion, I stumbled across this feed about the Sandman tutorial because I had a separate (yet similar) problem. I have since figured out the solution on my own, and I provide it below. This may seem elementary to some of you, but this was one of those annoying gotchyas between Realflow 3 and Realflow 4, especially to novice users like myself.
When simulating the Sandman, if you find that not all of the particles within the Fill Object fall to the ground (i.e.: it looks like certain particles get stuck in crevasses or in the fingers), do the following:
In the nodes list, click on "man"
In the Node Params box, under the Node listing, set Simulation to Inactive.
Your particles should now fall to the ground the same way as in the tutorial.

Where do you find this tutorial by the way?

It's on Realflow and Maya Integration kit.
