Hello,

I have a rigged body for a character I'm working on, and I want to attach a head that I rigged. The problem now is that when I do this, some of the vertices where the head and body attach separate. As it separates, it actually creates new vertices! below is a picture showing an example of what I mean-

Does anyone have any suggestion on what to do or have run into this problem before? Thanks again

You'd have to attach the head to the body by merging their edge vertices. Do this before skinning it to the rig. Otherwise it won't have a smooth motion. I'd suggest to manually merge the vertices instead of selecting all the edge vertices of both parts and doing a merge.
Hope that works.

What method are you using to "attach" the head?

hi,

as someone said earlier, make it into a single mesh and then skin it or u can even do it now...

1. have a copy of the file
2. open the copy
3. remove skin cluster node
4. attach head and body somehow using maya tools and cleanup the model for all kinda issues... use mj polytools if needed
5. duplicate the main mesh and delete the original, now FT and RT it...
6. just select the influence joints/transforms/shape nodes if any and create a skin cluster node on the shape node of ur mesh
7. now, reference the original file and perform a copy skin weights with smooth skin option ON..

if any issue, just reply - we will fix it..
