If this this has already been answered, I applogize, but I haven't seen it yet.

EVERYONE is telling me that Maya 8 has ALL new menu names, and menu locations...

Does this mean, that Maya Basics, first edition, is now usless? Does it mean that at least the part that helps you understand menus is now obsolete?

If that's the case, can I return it? Because quite honetly, with every other software program, 3DS Max, Photoshop, etc etc. The old books STILL APPLIED because even if the menus changed, they didn't often change the actually NAMES of items themselves....

I hope I didn't waste my money to buy the first edition when I did...

no, no, they did change some stuff around but dont get scared, all the tools are still there. So they changed the location of a handfull of tools and some menu names, so what? its really not a big deal and I dont see why so many people are over reacting to this. If you know how to use Maya, then you know how to use Maya regardless of where they move menu items and what they call them. Just take an afternoon to learn the new menu names and locations, honestly it only takes like 10-15 minutes to become acquainted with the new features, let alone the few name changes and locations of menu items. Dont worry about Maya 8's interface, its no big deal just relax lol.

You shouldn't have a problem understanding the maya basics tutorials even on maya 8. Not only are the changes minor, but you can customize your menus to bring it back to the way it was before maya 8 if you want... though in my opinion it's a lot more organized now. Except for the fact that there's no F-6 hotkey default for the Rendering subset, so you either have to replace whatever has F6 as a hotkey by default or use the dropdown menu every time you want to go to the rendering menu >:(
