Hi guys and Girls
I am just starting out in 3dmax and softimage and i was looking for a tutorial on starting a human head modeling and i can not find one for softimage and 3d max ..... and can someone tell me why do they cut the models in half after they build it... i was looking at a tutorial and they was building a model .. they start off with the shape then half way through they just delete half the model ? and build it back in symmetry.. Why?

hi there. Im a maya user so havent really looked at the tutorials in regard to modeling heads. The reason we create almost all models in halvs is basically to save time. Its much quicker to model one half and then just mirror the geometry rather that modeling the whole thing. Alterations are usually made after the model has been mirrored when modeling a head just to break the symmetry and make it look a little more realistic as heads and faces are not totally symmetrical. Hope this helps a little.

Welcome to DT, Kingmayback :)

I would recommend submitting a request (http://digitaltutors.zendesk.com/anonymous_requests/new) for the training, though I am sure that there will most likely be lessons in one of their future releases. Keep posted.

Not sure if you have seen our Human Modeling series: http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=5&pid=3273 It is in Maya but I've had so many people tell me that is has helped them see the workflow and then apply it to their own software (Max / Soft). This series looks at topology and flow of edges that you could easily translate into a specific app.

@papa

Yeah, but MAX is a horrible convoluted monster of bad UI. Maybe you could redo the tutorial for MAX?
