Ok, here is the Spawn model I've been working on these past days...

I am a rookie in digital sculpting and zbrush(Spawn is my first sculpture... well actually the second since I also sculpted the spider for the Intro to Mudbox 2011 course but Spawn is the first model I make from scratch in zbrush).

I have already watched the Introduction to zbrush, Character creation in zbrush courses and some videos from the Materials and rendering course.

After so many hours in front of the PC monitor watching all those videos, I now realise how X-Men Cyclops feels his eyes....

Wow, nice job, nice amount of detail. This thread should be up under member projects itself though, the threads here are for the contests DT puts on monthly. I would like to see it fully textured though. Are you thinking of doing the guy John Leguizamo played in the movie as well? (Violator)

Well, I was indeed thinking of making the Violator too but I am not that good with zbrush yet. However, Violator would be an excellent practise.

But first I must complete Spawn who does need more work(final touches, modeling his accessories(spikes, cape, chains etc), texturing, posing etc). If the final result is good then he will be the first entry to my portfolio... if not, well he would still have served his purpose lol.

Here is Spawn so far....

I encountered two issues during this project.

a) I duplicated his belt skull once, scaled it and moved it but when I tried to mirror it, zbrush started to calculate new geometry and UVs and then crashed. However when I just used append in order to bring that skull twice into my scene... everything worked fine.

b)Spawn model is up to subdivision 7(a bit more than 5mil polygons). When I increase it to level 8(after increasing the allowed number of polys from the Preferences drop down menu), everytime I try to make a single stroke on him, cursor turns into the loading cursor and I see the result a few seconds later.

I have set zbrush to aquire 4GB of ram and my system has 8GB and a Phenom II X6 1055 CPU.

Any ideas why those issues happen?

Hi Evans,

Great looking model!

You might try HD sculpting on this one instead of dividing it up to 8 subdivisions.

Thanks for the info Spyro! HD Geometry indeed works better and way faster than the standard subdivision levels.
