So I recently started working with Maya, and I had a friend of mine come up with a character for me to model. He drew me an anteater (inside of a suit) with some bug spray cans on his backpack thing. We have a small short we have planned a little, but I am a little stuck on the legs and how I want them to look.

Here is a picture of the drawing my friend gave me.

I have worked on a few pieces of it, starting with the canister that goes at the end of the nose, which is meant to be like the canister on a gas mask, which I just so happen to have had in my closet. I didn't do the screw thread on the bottom of it because it will be inside of a tube that the anteater's nose goes into.

I worked on the bug spray can some, I had a spray nozzle on it but I deleted the texture I put on it so it didn't show up in my render. I'm not done with it, I was just testing out the brushed aluminum look (which is reflecting the black of nothingness, otherwise it wouldn't be so dark, but I was happy with the result nonetheless). My friend is working on a logo for me to make the label with, so I am still waiting for that.

Now on to the model itself. I am new to this so any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. I am nowhere near finished with it, but I wanted to show the DT community what I have been working on and get some feedback on it.

The anteater will be inside of the suit itself, and the head part will split apart in the middle and open so that the anteater can climb out of his suit. Stating the obvious, his nose will run through the tube in the front (that will be hanging as in the drawing, and swinging as he runs, etc.). I still need to import the canister again since I worked on it some more, but it's fine for now to show you guys, since all I did to it was add more of the detail on the top.

The model's hands don't look very good to me, and I am having a few problems getting it the way I want it. The suit is pressurized when it closes so that is why it looks so plump. I think I am going to have the anteater control the suit with a control station on the inside, with screens and a HUD inside for him to target the bugs/ants he is against.

Thanks in advance for the criticism and help I know the DT community will give, and I look forward to getting to know some of you so I can learn more to help me better my modeling.
