Chapter 2 - The Interview (WIP)

Are a few meetings online and some bantor back and fourth .A few of us members have decided to undertake a kinda heavy project load .This hasnt totaly been worked out yet but we have started the modeling progress and decided to post a few images of what has been going on the past few sleepless hours and days .Below are some viewport captures .We all hope that everyone here enjoys what will be showed .

Here is a render test with one of the characters in the scene .This character was done by Zeus and its still a wip .We still have allot of work to be done so any cc is welcome .The lighting isnt the lighting we will be using .I will also be posting some more closeups as we progress.

Chapter 2 the Interview

Set 01 scene01
Date: present day New York City
Location: Sebastian Canes New York High Rise Building and Specialty Shops
Walking to the elevator
As Julia makes her way through the halls of CS Plaza she notes luxury like she had never seen in her life time. Rounding the corner she sees a large peculiar looking man dressed in a black and white uniform standing in front of what seemed to be a private elevator. The man snapped to attention as she approached, reminding her of a military unit. Well for what she knew of such units any way.

Entering the elevator
“Good afternoon Mss Means,” the man said as the elevator door opened, and he motioned her in. Following his gesture she stepped into the elevator realizing at the last moment she hadn’t ask for the floor number. ”Excuse me sir,” she had started to say but the door slid closed cutting her off.
She looked down at the control panel but there was none. A little startled she found herself wondering what she had gotten herself into.
The elevator seemed to be moving faster than any she could recall, looking up at the floor indicator it had just passed floor 666, and her mind began to reel with question and concern, her chest felt heavy as panic began to set in. She told herself she had to calm down. She looked up again as the elevator slowed to a stop. Floor 999… certainly this was some kind of joke.

A quit – Ding – the door slid open..

A quit ‘Ding ‘ and the door slid open. Nervously Mss Means stepped out of the elevator…
As Sebastian eased back in his high back leather chair his attention was caught by the young lady who stepped out of the elevator into his study. She was different, and it was that difference that drew his eyes to her. She had none of the cities polish, none of the glitter that comes with corruption, and was all the lovelier for it. Delightfully free of the artifice with which modern women enhanced their faces, she was a vision to behold. Even for one such as him.
His hands fisted tightly as desire never sated flooded him. Somewhere in her ancestry the lady had Welsh blood, it was there in curly waves of red blonde hair that tumbled about a delicate face. It was there in the peaches and cream complexion and huge green eyes. The lady was lusciously plump were it counted, with a trim waste and shapely legs, hugged by a snug leather skirt.
He wet his lips and stared, making a noise deep in his throat that was more animal than man.
Sebastian inhaled sharply and then a second time, he could smell her sweet womanly scent and hear the soft beat of her heart from forty five feet away.
He envisioned himself behind her. His entire body went tight with lust. She was lovely. Lush curves that could make a dead man stir. In fact they just did.
Yet she reeked of innocence. He murmured to himself and cleared his throat. Then straightening in his chair he lifted his hand and motioned her forward.


Set03 Scene02 crossing the room
Julia was now smoothing her skirt and tucking her purse beneath her arm as she strode forward across the elegant grand foyer. She tried not to gawk at all the splendid things around her.
Like the Scottish claymore hanging above the stone fireplace. The room was full of artifacts and weapons dating back to the sixteenth century and beyond.
Broaches and badges in mint condition lay beside a pile of ancient coins on a desk of marble to her left. She couldn’t help but feel as if she had stepped back in time. Her anxiety and nervousness lost in her excitement.
Though with all the wonderful things around her what she found most odd was the fact there was not one single photo of her host anywhere that she could see.
There was however a portrait of him, it looked like it might have been painted at one of those renaissance festivals for he was adorned in armor and weapons of times gone by, a great winged beast lay dead at his feet. From the distance she couldn’t make out the signature in the corner though she thought it matched one of the many that lined the walls ‘ Rembrandt ‘ , but how could that be.
Marble sculptures sat in three corners of the room , Aristotle, Alexander the Great, and Archimedes. Peculiarly though as hard as she tried she could not remember seeing these pieces in any ancient manuscripts. They could be knock offs but she was almost certain they were authentic.
Virgin wool carpet was soft beneath her feet and heavy black velvet draping covered the windows.
She hadn’t noticed she had travelled the distance of the room until she stumbled into a chair. When she looked up she was standing at the edge of a large mahogany desk.

Set03 Scene03 Mss Means takes a seat and begins to listen to Sebastian
“Please set down,” came the friendly but stern voice from the far side of the desk. A handsome man with dark features and what appeared to be a muscularly lean runners body beneath the beautifully hand crafted dark grey and blue pinstriped Armani suit.
As she settled into the chair beside her she noticed the faint scent of cinnamon.
Sebastian leaned forward in his high back leather chair took a sip of his blood red brandy and turned his attention to the young reporter seated across from him.
“Mss Means I want you to know I greatly appreciate you coming. I am most certain you have many questions for me already. If you will allow me to continue I will answer as many as I can”, He paused for a moment taking another sip of his brandy. “Forgive me where are my manners “ , he said. “ Would you like a drink?”
Glancing to her watch, then tapping the crystal lightly, ‘hmn my watch has stopped ‘, she thought to herself then said to Sebastian, “No I’m fine thank you.”
“Very well, now Mss Means as I was saying on the phone with you earlier, he feeds on all things evil.” “You make him sound like the serpent, the devil himself, “ said Mss Means.
“ You mean Satan herself,” he corrected then smiled weakly . Confusion, excitement and a bit of concern evident in her eyes, “excuse me sir, “ she interrupted as she nervously wrung out her hands, “may I ask why you requested me?”
Sebastian son of Cane raised one dark eye brow a little, “well you’re the only reporter I know of that has a master’s in ancient civilizations, and a father that is a professor of medieval history at Princeton University. I thought this might make you more open minded to the facts I intend to present you. Now as I was saying put aside every religion you have ever heard of. They mean nothing here. He predates them all. He is a survivor of the First age. He predates Judaism; long before Babylonia, even Mesopotamia. There was another civilization then, in another age.”
“The First Age,” Mss Means said. You mentioned that before.” It was not a new idea to her. She had run across the theory now and then in the historical and archeological journals she had read at various times while helping her father with his research. The obscure theory contended that all of recorded history represented only the second age of man, that long ago there had been a great civilization across Europe and Asia. Some even went so far as to include the island continents of Atlantis in this ancient world, a world they claimed had been destroyed in a global cataclysm. “It’s a discredited idea,” Mss Means said, a defensive quiver in her voice. “ All historians and archaeologists of any repute condemn it as lunacy.”
“Yes of this I am aware,” Sebastian said with a sardonic twist to his lips. The same type of authorities who scoffed at the possibilities that Troy might have truly existed and then Schliemann found it, but I m not going to debate you. The First Age was real. I was born in it.”
“ But how---“, “Let me finish. There isn’t much time and I want you to understand a few things before I go. Things were different in the first age. This world was then a battleground between two ---- “ he appeared to be groping for a word. “ I don’t want to say gods, because that would give you the impression that they had discrete identities and forces.. Powers abroad in the land then. One the Dark Power, which was called Chaos, reveled in anything destructive to mankind. The other power was…” he paused again and Mss Means could not help but prompt him. “ You mean the white power…the power of good?”
Sebastian took a deep breath, and said. “It’s not as simple as that. We merely called it the light. What mattered was that it opposed Chaos. The First Age eventually became divided into camps, those who sought dominion through Chaos and those who resisted. Draco became the champion of Chaos” … “And you became the champion of Light – of good ,” blurted out Mss Means.
“No I didn’t exactly choose. And I can’t say the Power I serve is all that good. I was conscripted you might say. Circumstances too involved to explain now. I found myself leading the army of Light and was give this sword”
Set03 Scene04 Sebastian presents the ancient sword
He pulled a long thin case made of arcadia wood and ornate with ancient ruins from beneath his desk. Releasing the two silver latch’s one at each end of the case.
As the top slowly lifted a misty substance filtered from the case. Mss Means pulled back. It was like nothing she had ever seen in this time or from the past ages that she knew of. The blade itself was pitch black silver ruins running the length gave off a consistent ghostly white glow. It was double edged and looked to be a proximately five feet long. The hilt was equally dark ending with a blood red ruby the size of a golf ball at the pummel. He continued to speak “Its blade and hilt were forged by a race of small folk now long extinct. Forged in the fires of Shehole, her metal cooled in the water of the river Styx. It was fashioned for one purpose, to destroy. There came a final battle between the opposing forces Armageddon, Ragnarok, all the doomsday battles rolled into one. The resulting cataclysm earthquakes fire storms, tidal waves, wiped out every trace of the first age of man. Only a few humans were left to begin again. “
“But what of the powers ?” Sebastian shrugged , “ They still exist, but their interest waned after the cataclysm they turned their attentions elsewhere while Draco and I fought on across the world and across the ages. And somewhere along the way we lost something. “ He glanced down at a mirror on his desk. “ Hold that up to my face”, he told her. She lifted the mirror and positioned it next to his cheek.”How do I look in it?” he asked. Mss Means glanced at the glass and dropped it with a tiny scream. The mirror was empty. He cast no reflection.
“Vampire” she uttered under her breath. Sebastian nodded his head, but neither agreed or disagreed. “ Our reflections were taken by the Powers we serve, perhaps as a constant reminder to Draco and myself that our lives were not our own.”
His mind seemed to drift for a moment then he spoke. “ It’s strange not to see yourself in a mirror or a pool of water. You never get use to it.” He smiled sadly.
I never stopped pursuing Draco, he said “Where ever there was news of butchery and death, I would find him and drive him off. But as civilization gradually rebuilt itself, and people began to crowd together again, he became more ingenious in his methods. He was always spreading death and misery in any way he could, and in the fourteenth century when he traveled from Constantinople throughout Europe, leaving plague ridden rats in every city along his way.
“The Black Death,” Miss Means interrupted. “Yes “ said Sebastian as he leaned back in his chair and took another sip of his blood red brandy and observed the multitude of emotional expressions that came across Mss Means face.
A single tear rolled from the corner of her eye and down over her cheek. She pulled a kerchief from her purse and carefully blotted her eyes. She tried to settle herself, to make sense of what she was hearing. So many questions flooded her mind at once. She feared she might say the wrong thing ask the wrong question.
“ I thought vampires could not transverse the earth in day light?” ask Mss Means
“MY my young lady, there are many myths about us, created by your kind. I shall attempt to explain away the most common. A true vampire,…” he paused to himself for a long moment and thought – hmn this may be more difficult than I anticipated. Then he began again. “ Vampires have existed since the beginning of time, direct decedents of the Keeper herself, better known as Satan to you. A union between man and a divine being brought about my half brother Draco, Prince of Darkness, Father of vampires. My half brother turned me at a young age, but I was not his first. Ahh – excuse me, your question . the day light is little more than an annoyance to a true vampire. The truer the bloodline the stronger the gift, or curse depending on your point of view.” Sebastian took a sip of brandy and continued. “Garlic does not repel us nor does holy water or other religious trinkets. And a stake through the heart, hmn well let me ask you what do you think that would do to a heart that no longer beats? No it will not stop us, now to lose ones head can be a totally different matter indeed, but even that alone does not insure our demise. It is however the first step. Disease and time hold no consequence for us. The bloodline begins with Draco, he was born of the union between the Keeper and a human named Cane. Thereafter is his counsel of five , and then me. His half brother, it has been a very long time since I have thought of this much less spoken the words. But once I was called Enoschosa son of Cane.”
Mss Means tried to speak but it came out in choked gasp of air. Sebastian continued, “Yes I see the recognition in your eyes, it is that very Cane I speak of.
There is a battle to come, one that will decide the fate of many. My brother is no longer satisfied to rule the darkness, should I fail in this task nothing will stand between Draco and human kind. A rift between this world and the underworld will open. And all forms of dead and undead will walk the surface world. Abominations you cannot imagine.”
Sebastian sat back in his chair and exhaled deeply. Mss Means seemed to slouch down in hers. “ I certainly could use a drink of your brandy,” she said.
Sebastian smiled and nodded his head. “ I do not think you would care for this, it is an acquired taste.” Then he pushed a button on a small panel on the left side of his desk. “ May I help you sir,” came the response. “Yes Arron, would you please bring our guest a snifter of our finest brandy, and see that it is warmed.” “As you wish sir.”
Set03 Scene05 Sebastian slides the lock box across the desk
Sebastian turned his attention back to Ms Means, “ should I fail in my task the world must know what it faces, what it is up against.” Taking the final drink from his goblet he pushes’s a locked metal box across the desk.”Should I not return this box is automated to open in 48 hours. “ Julia Means struggled to understand, to believe all she had just heard she started to ask, but instinctively turned at the sound of the door behind her being opened.
Set03 Scene06 Arron brings Julia her brandy
“Your brandy my lady, “said Arron.
Julia took a sip of her brandy, warm and smooth it warmed her to her toes. With a hint of a smile she turned back to thank Sebastian for her drink, only to find the chair now empty…



More to come… Chapter 3 Half way around the globe Draco stands at the window of his ancient mansion looking out over his domain!

Quite a story you guys have there. Are you going to have the video narrated to keep the feeling? Or do you think you can accomplish it without? Looking forward to seeing some more of this one :) My wife loves vampire stuff, going to have her read it tomorrow, she is actually reading one of the Twilight books as I type this, hehe.

Hello again SaViGnAnO, and thank you for the comments. We intend to add voice over for the characters (lip sync), and are still going back and forth as to rather we should narrate it or not. I think we are leaning towards an appropriate musical background along with the narrator. You right to keep the feel of the story it would be difficult not to..

Roughly just a few hours .Because in my spare time i just model stuff for reuse in scenes .I hate kind modeling everything from scratch .I am still modeling the rest of the scene ,which should take me a little while longer as I need to add some more stuff .Well allot more stuff .I am doing that so I can get some other views as well .

Zeus and I thank you for the feedback .Though I have two questions for everyone if they dont mind answering them truthfully and be as harsh as you want .Dont let no texturing yet affect the answers below .Please answer the questions to help us improve.


1.Is this movie quality in terms of modeling .
2.Should we add more and can it be better

If you're going for movie quality, my critique would be that everything is too perfect. Add some subtle randomness and wear and tear (of course much of this can be added with texture). Imperfections that aren't really noticeable still add to the believability of it.

Another Char for our project, just started adding detail to base mesh. Working on the left arm at the moment.

So there is no miss understandings we do have a SCRIPT we are working from. It is solid writing and we have some 800 pages to reference needed information; blood lines , history, character descriptions, love scenes, battle scenes both small and large, the story spans over several thousands of years It is our intention to complete the two scenes that make up the interview with Sebastian, and then possibly do another from a different chapter in the book.
We are open to artistic input , as long as it only bends the writing of the script.
We have had several comments about the need for storyboards, this is a subjective opinion , but one that is welcomed and one we are more than willing to have help on if any story board artist would like to join the team. I cant speak for Fusedgore , I do a little drawing but I am not a story board artist.

It's not a subjective opinion but it is a fact. Storyboards are really important for a short film or even for a simple animation. It's like building a house without having the plans from the architect.

If you are doing a short than the story (script, storyboards etc.) would be the most important thing. I have seen lots of shorts with bad CG with a good story.

You don't need to know drawing for storyboards. You can do just rough sketches. I think everyone can do storyboards.

I wish you good luck for the project and I hope you don't stop when you get some difficulties in the project or when it comes to animation. You know acting in animation is a bit hard. Maybe the most difficult part.
