I bit the bullet and picked up a Wacom intuos 6x8 tablet. I started messing around with it in Photoshop, and it's kind of goofy at this stage. I was wondering if anyone can throw a few tips my way as far as how to incorporate the Wacom into my workflows in PS, After Effects and Maya. I find myself awkwardly jumping back and forth between the pen, the mouse it came with (difficult to maneuver on the tablet) and my trusty old wireless mouse.

Thanks.

I don't have a tablet (and I can't draw) but I know you can get comfortable with a tablet in PS very quickly since it designed for it. Maya and AE on the other hand really aren't. I can't imagine how it would help in AE and in Maya I think all you can do is that paint tool with the brush (the paint tool for weights and geometry have pressure options) but I don't think that will be very useful. What you should do is look into Zbrush. That will be amazing with a tablet, its as close as you can get to digitally sculpting something right now, and Zrbush is set up for tablet use.

Use the brush pal. to open up settings that are based on pressure. Also don't use the mouse. Get used to using the pen all day everyday. You will get good at it.

Also set your pen buttons for different apps. So in PS I don't need the second button to be the middle click so I set it to a keyboard stroke. Mine is set to Control + C which makes it easy for me to get stuff picked up.
