View Full Version : Shave and hair with renderman

Hi

I am trying to render shave and hair using PRMAN (renderman studio)unfortunatelly I am facing following problems .Hope people in this forum would help me in resolving the following issues.

# When I am rendering instance geometry with Prman it gives white output for object (instance geometry )and not considering shader which is applied to s"have display "node.but works fine with MR and Maya software renderer.How does people render foilage made with shave and hair through Prman.
# Rendering in layers is not supported with Prman.
# Light linking is not obeyed with PRMAN(all the lights gets calculated for fur while rendering)

Please provide some solution for these issues.

It seems some are having a problem with this. This is for mac, but on windows I'm sure the directories are through (C:program files/)
At first i tried the .mod file path script but it didn’t seem to work so then I finally tracked through the manual to get the color working as follows
on mac os
find the shave.slo
located here:
Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2011/plug-ins/prman/lib/shaders

Select it and copy it

Then paste the copy here:
Macintosh HD/Applications/Pixar/RenderManStudio-3.0.3-maya2011/rmantree/lib/shaders

I also put it here (not sure if necessary but not a conflict problem)
Macintosh HD/Applications/Pixar/RenderManForMaya-4.0.2-maya2011/rmantree/lib/shaders

Prior I was just getting like an alpha/difuse channel of the render (black background, white hair render) changing the specular didn’t seem to work or any other of the options. But now it renders as it should, nice with the color.
