Is there any way to open Max 2009 Project Files

Is there any way to open Max 2009 or 2010 project files into Max 8? All I have is 3ds Max8 and wondering if this can be done. I know in Maya you can, but how about for Max?

From my research, 3ds Max project files are not backwards compatible.
