Hey guys. I'm trying to import some footage into After Effects. My problem is as follows: I have the actual .avi file without an alpha channel and a separate .avi file containing only the alpha channel of the video. How can I tell After Effects (or Premiere) to interprete that file as the alpha channel of another. Anyone knows?

AE: You're gonna want to import both files and then use your alpha channel footage as a luminance matte. It works as a black/white matte just like a mask in Photoshop (actually sometimes a good way to create a luminance matte is in PS) - so the higher contrast your luminance footage the better.
Import your two pieces of footage. Place the actual footage below the alpha footage. Change the track matte (TrkMat) to "Luma".
Premiere I'm not quite as familiar as I am with AE so I'd have to actually open the program to remember what the exact settings are called. :)
