Hi. Rotating an object should be peice of cake, but when I group different objects together and rotates the grouped I get a weird result. they dont rotate, they wrench and get really long. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Why its happening, and how you can fix/prevent it? it's driving me mad, and I'm sure the answer is really simple. I attached a pic so you can see what I'm talking about

I'm not too sure what is happening, could you please describe it a bit more. Also, have to tried resetting the options for the rotate tool? And have you centered the pivot point of each object and the pivot point of the group?

Try deleting the history on all objects and freeze their transformation. Than Group those suckers and adjust the groups pivot point to the groups center. Than rotate and they should behave as you aspect. Hope it helped. Good luck :)

I go for freezing the transfomation of all the objects then group it. Had this problem way back maya 5 i guess :)

Yeah i ran into this along time ago, but unfortunately I forgot what causes it and how to fix it. If anything, you can always duplicate the object and delete the buggy one, the new object will behave like normal.

I've tried your solutions and none of them helped. It doesnt matter if my objects are grouped or not, I think thats whats causing it in the first place, but I can ungroup an object and it still behaves weird. so, now I'm down to one ungrouped opbject and that's what we should care about. I did freeze transformations, no effect. I locked the scale attributes, though its not really scaling, only rotating. I reseted the rotation tool, didnt help. and centering the pivot point when theres only one object would be a waste of time (though I did it). soo, do you have any other solutions for me?

Have you tried Delete By Type -> History?
This has been bothering me because like Jak I remember it happening but not how to fix it.

How did you create the second object? Look into your duplication settings and make sure you have copy and none of the other boxes checked. Try 'group under new group' too.
I think that a double transformation is going on, but deleting the history removes that problem usually.

okay heres the situation. I grouped some stuff and now I can't rotate this one object, even though I remove it from the group. theres no copy or whatever, and it's not in any group. I hope there is one out there who can help me, thanks for all the this-may-work-solutions, but they just didn't work. you dont have any other things I can try. it would be nice if somebody wrote a "this is why your objects get ****ed up" post

can you post a sceenshot of both what the object looks like in the attribute editor and in the outliner?
The problem with making a post like that is there are too many ways to screw up just about everything.

This could be why your object is lucked up... maybe its locked? Check the channel box for color coding and if there is color something is affecting it. If the objects are simple enough to recreate the scene totally new try that. If it's more complex freeze transformations etc. and try exporting it and reimporting. I have no other clue unless you suply the file if possible.

Just some food for thought, this is something I never experienced in all my time working in Maya 4, 6, 6.5, or 8, instead it appears to me to be a bug in Maya 7; but I cant confirm.

You could also try resetting your Edit -> Group settings since grouping it seems to be what causes the problem.
