I've been anticipating this movie ever since the first trailer came out; and finally, it gets released to theater (love how it comes out on 9-9-09, haha). I'll make my way over to the theater tomorrow and give it a watch at last! And I shall share a non spoiler recollection of the movie after :D
Just like District 9, this movie is the directors first film, derived from a short film they previously conceived. In this case, Shane Acker. I saw his short film for 9, and it was quite unique, and I loved it (not surprised it caught Tim Burton's eye, really does look like something he'd conjure up, haha). It'll be great seeing a feature film out of it.
It's not backed up by Disney or Dreamworks, so I won't be expecting pretty expensive renders; but the art style alone easily makes up for that. Just love that "steam-punk" look, or in this case Button's & Thread Punk? haha. It's done by a studio called Starz Animation in Toronto Canada. This is easily their biggest film, I think the only last recognizable film they did was a Veggie Tails movie I haven't seen. So I'm sure things will pick up with them after this movie hits theaters. Once I have a solid portfolio, I shall give it a shot and apply there one day, haha.
Another thing I'll point out, merely because I'm a complete geek for film orchestral soundtracks, haha. The score is done by Danny Elfman, one of my favorite composers (well among the 10 "favorite" composers I have, haha), so I'm also really exited about the music. Tim Burton obviously brought him onto the project, he's been working with him since Edward Scissor Hands, haha (great soundtrack btw). Anyway, great composer, ordered myself a copy of the soundtrack, cause his stuff is always guaranteed to be awesome, so I can't wait for that either!
Anyway, can't wait to see the movie. And I shall bring you all tidings after I have seen it!
