Just thought i would share with the community some early CG used from a few of my favorite videos and songs. As you might have suspected the tunes come from the 80's. :)
The first song is by Dire Straits(Sting w/background vocals) with the hit "Money For Nothing" from 1985. http://youtube.com/watch?v=5qqXOFWPGKA which was produced by a Bosch FGS-4000 CG supercomputer system in London, similar to the SGI supercomputers used for other music videos much later and old Disney Animations. Yep, before Pixar, Dreamworks, commodity PC's and hardware graphics this was all done the hard way. I can definitely appreicate what we have today.
Rotoscoping, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscoping was also used to make the neon highlighting and special lighting effects which brings me to the 2nd video i wanted to share which made full use of the technique of rotoscoping. Can u imaging doing all drawings by hand? Here is the Norweigan 80's pop band A-ha with "Take On Me" also from 1985. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lXBmgmytFVU
Hope you Enjoy and for those of us that are children of the 80's its a good trip back to the time when MTV actually played music.. imagine that eh? :) :headbang:
