Hey! It's Matt. This is my first entry and i have just registered yesterday. Just to tell you a little bit about myself, i have been working with 3D programs for about two years now and I'm 16 years old. This is going to be the foundation i'm going to work with for this project created in vue:

Please give me some suggestions, i'm thinking of just having a raft wash ashore or maybe a box of TNT or something.

How about a ship wreck.

Looks real nice but you should read the rules closely. As far as I know DT doesn't offer training for Vue.

As of right now this is what i have, i used maya to create the raft and photoshop to texture it.

mguild, nice scene, though you must stay within the plot of "Washed ashore," which is the object inside the wooden crate. You can create a raft or ship wreck on the island but the focus is the crate. Please use an application that is either taught by DT or is a freeware application as it is easier for DT members and admins to assist you if there are any issues with the project. If you want, you may use Vue for environment setup purposes. Looking forward to seeing more of your work :)

I heard that Vue was an easy way to create realistic nature and things like that
not sure of how it is to create those landscape... but seems like we (maya users) have to work 10times more than you to get to that result
or maybe 10000X times more
not sure if we can consider the realistic part since its modeled with a program that gives you a realistic model for few minutes of work
anyway... nice 3D art man =)

Once you figure out the interface you can create amazing landscapes in minutes in Vue. It is also a great renderer but very slow.

thats what I thought... so its unfair to use it in a contest where the people are used to use Maya, 3dsMax and XSI...
well thats my opinion...
but its still beautiful and artistic

Hey thanks for the criticism. Judges, please don't judge me on the landscape, because i know i kind of cheated. Anyway i've been modeling stuff in maya and i think i'm going to stick with the TNT idea. Here's what i created in Maya and textured in photoshop using a UV Layout. http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6879/cratek.jpg

Alright well i decided to change my view so it wouldn't focus to much on the island, but rather the object that is washed away. What would you think if you found a crate of dynamite by the shore? Anyway, this is my final render for my first contest, hope you like it! Thanks guys. If you'd like to see the texture maps i created, i'll post em for you. I worked hard on those and getting the right angle for the render.
