HI all
I think I will give this months contest a shot, my first here at DT. As soon as I saw the crate I thought...wouldn't it be great, funny and really suck, all at the same time, if you were stranded on a island and you had a crate wash ashore and you found a certain item inside said crate. Well anyway..here is my first update image. I have the three key elements modeled( although only one key element is show...it's a surprise):) and I am going to work on the environment now.
Some might get whats inside right away...it depends on how you read the crate.
Good luck to all.

Well a good start. It is a good thing that you didn't mentioned what will be inside the crate. I suggest keep it that way. I had some thoughts about what might be in the crate but I'm going to tell that & spoil the surprise (if I'm right)

I agree with BlackDeath. Fragile warning plus the direction to open the crate, hmm ;)

Hi all
Here is another update. I'm working on building the beach and setting up the scene.

Great job man. Did you use Paint FX for the trees or did you modeled them? As for the clouds I think you should use some medium size ones unless the storm is still happening.. The sky is sort of filled up for me & it sort of kills the beauty of the ground.

Nice!
Reduce the amount of grass where it meets the sand or put some variation in its position so it doesn't look planned planted.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am still tossed up between the clouds. The trees are modeled once and duplicated with some variation. It took me a while to get the sand the way you see it. I haven't used Maya like this in a while so it is a refreshing challenge. I am trained in 3d(BFA) but I got thrown into the motion graphics industry with the hopes of breaking into 3D soon. More to come...

Ok, I don't have much time this next week to work on this so here is close to my final entry. I've been playing with the environment alot and went to the beach here in Florida and ended up with something I like. I will add a few more little details.
Imagine being on an island and this big crate is washed ashore that looks real important and whats inside......a major award, of course!
This has been fun.

amazing! keep working on!
take a look at his left hand (on our right)
play with the fingers to do a kind of natural human pose it will make your scene really better
