I'm using this as a chance to work more with fluids and the physical sun/sky environment. My ultimate goal will be to create something that could be considered slightly photo-realistic.

Ah, yes the box. I have a rough idea of how that will unfold. The more I think about this scene the more I want to do a first person POV animation as a person that also washed up on shore (perhaps after a crash of some kind). I'll definitely be playing with this idea further.

Yeah it is not. So no heads in the box....

Unless the head would be a jack in the box, that would be a suprise. Hmmmm;)

Ha, jack in the box. That reminds me of my college Maya classes. I think at that time we were using Maya 5 or 6, but every training book had a jack in the box tut. I think we also did Salty the seal and some kind of spaceship project......that was awhile ago.

Alright, I have a bit of an update. I have chosen to do an animation for this competition and and all from fist person POV. Here's how I see it playing out:

pt1- Your in the ocean struggling to stay afloat as the current is tossing you around like a rag doll.

pt2- You wake up on the beach (exhausted and a bit confused). You sit up look around to see nothing but land and surf. You pass out.

pt3- You are woken up by a strange noise. You sit back up and look around to find a strange crate that has washed ashore. You walk over to explore it's contents. You are surprised by what you find inside...

That's the idea at least. I've posted pt1 on youtube. Check it out and let me know what you think. It moves a bit fast for my taste as of now, but then again, I've never been struggling in the middle of stormy seas before.

nice looking moon and ambiance!
maybe just do some fog around the moon
like your moon is glowing yellow a bit... or white

Really under the gun to try and wrap this up. DT doesn't off gallery space for animations right? Last time I posted a small vid to youtube it took FOREVER. I want to make sure time doesn't expire prior to me getting this up on the web.....we'll see.

Try using photobucket, it works for me when I have animation, plus the have the space to house your vid, just as long as it's not a movie.:)

Well, it's a tad bit late (had to load to youtube overnight) but here's my final.

Very nice, It reminds me of the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, you never see what's in it, but you know it's something awesome. Great job, the only thin I would have changed, would instead of the quick cut-aways, do a transition or fade out-in, but other than that great job, keep it up.

I agree about the fades. I actually used fades instead of cuts but I need to go back and add frames in post to make the transitions a bit longer.
