Hello snake. Sounds like you'll have to manually tweak the width and height of your image planes till they are the same in size. Add a piece of geometry like a cube and use it as a guideline for setting up the image planes.

hi,
i personally would recommend fireworks for that matter but each of their own. you should cut them each by each seperatly and very exact and put them in a single picture as you might already know; try to fill the whole canvas with the blueprint part. and before cutting calculate which pictures(front, side, back or top) must have what height and width; for example the height of the front must be exactly equal to the height pf side or the width of top and side must also be equal... hope you get the idea ;)
so you can measure them correctly and remember by filling the whole canvas with the cutted specific image you make sure that no resizing in maya is needed! believe me you don't want to resize them again in maya cause 1. you move the cameras and 2.it's not exact enough! :dance

check surrland.com they guy who runs the site has good blueprints..and a tutorial on how to set your blueprints up....the turtorial is for max, but the fundamentals work with any 3d package, or you can get the DT Photrealistc Car Kit and see how the measurments are made in it..hope that helps
