View Full Version : transparency doesn't work with layer shader

im on the 4th cd of introduction to maya: 2nd edition and i have a problem. i cant get the jetBikeLogo to go in transparency when linked to the layer shader. it says it has transparency linked on but nothing happens in the scene. the engine cover is still white and when i render it it's still white too. can someone PLEASE help me out? i went over the lesson many times trying to figure out what i did wrong and i can't figure it out. im stumped :frown:

Can you attach a picture of the hookup? With your mouse over the line that says jetbikelogo.alpha->layeredShader.transparency.

how do i attach a picture? i tried and it told me to put in something[img]xx[img] or something like that

Okay you have it connected wrong. I think. Open the Connection Editor , load the PSD on the left and the jet bike on the right. Connect the Color to the transparency.
Actually I'm not sure how your PSD is set up, so you have an alpha channel?

Okay I talked with Hard_Drive over AIM for awhile trying to fix the problem but since I don't have 7.0 I couldn't open his scene file. Is there anyone here with 7.0 that can help him?

I think he did not hide the background the texture file , he has to do that in the photo editor before he apply the texture to the jet cover
