hello,

I recently bought a book called digital texturing and painitng (The author uses maya 3.0 in this book) and have run into trouble when trying to put one of his shader networks together. He starts by making a procedule texture by connecting cloth to a lambert and then makes a striped greyscale ramp that is connected to the lambert through the diffuse channel to give the cloth texure black and white stripes (on the connection is says "out alpha"). The problem is that in maya 7 I am not able to find anything called "out alpha in the connection editor. If I want to adjust a texture's alpha channel within a shader network, is there another way for me to do it?
Below are a couple of pictures to clarify my issue

His file is from maya 3.0 in mb format while mine is done in maya 7 in ma format so I'm sure some things have changed. I tried searching for "out alpha" under maya's help menu but wasn't able to find anything that helped at all. If anyone has any advice on what to do I'd greatly appreciate it.

It looks like you're using a shader instead of the ramp texture (like he/she has set up). Shaders mostly do not have an out alpha attribute.

Great thanks! that makes a lot more sense now and I was able to get it working. This has bugged me in the past so glad to finally get it sorted out :)
