It's the end of the semester, winter break is starting so I finally have time to join in this month's project.

Battleships was one of my favorite games back in the days. I played it as a boardgame, paper & pencil (in school when the teacher wasn't looking :p ), console and computer.

Since it's been years I've played Battleships I'm not gonna focus on strategy but rather make an animated sort of fantasy version of the game, like creating my own concept battleships.

What a coincidence! I got the idea while reading that comic, haha. The old tycoon was cheating through a camera...though that's the only way of cheating I can think of in this game since the players can't see each other's turf. So how did fubar1124 cheated? ;)

maybe fubar1124 is a super spy & he must have attached a micro camera to cheat!! :loud_laug :loud_laug :dont_know

(forgive me if its not funny)

hooo I wanted to do that one lol
Good luck with it Dj
its a nice idea since that game (like monopoly, risk and chest) is still a played game so everybody will recognise it =)

purplemikey, you can also do Battleships. It would be interesting to see two different CG versions of one game :)

Hope to see lot of explosions!!!!!

BlackDeath, I see a lot of particle work ahead of me :)

I used to play this as a kid & take the risky, though rarely successful tactic of piling all mt ships on top of each other. That way you either had no losses or no ships at all. Got to love the 7 year old's brain process.

Looking forward to those WIPs ;) Boom Sploosh!

Another explosion fan. Why don't I just animate explosions and be done with it :D j/k

Here's the patrol boat. As you can see it's a fantasy concept. I'm keeping it real simple because there are four more ships to go...and then their texturing (argh!) and then their animation (aargh!). Peace out :bang

@ shamoii Welcome to the BOOM!!! Club!!!!!! :yes

@Dj The boat looks nice, can you tell us any more about your concept at this time? or you want to keep it in secret?? (that's fine with me) :jump

Thanks :)

I did sketch a rough concept but due to lack of time I immediately started modeling it without putting too much thought into armor and other weaponry. But since the basic structure is made I can add whatever type of weapons on it, depending on time. Those explosions are gonna be expensive, time wise :)

Maybe DT should call a cease fire zone for this members project zone!! :loud_laug :bounce2:

If it does then only one blast will do, no need for grids either :)

Too early, the first shots haven't even fired yet ;)

Update: Here is the Battleship and the sub.

Battleship I'm thinking of keeping this low poly...just enough for the textures to work properly.

looks great dj. . .you keep mentioning time. . .perhaps you should have a collaborative contest one month. have people team up with another artist to complete a project. would be a pretty good excercise in pipeline techniques.

DjVoyager
12-06-2008, 07:37 PM
Thanks, guys.

Anm8or, we will eventually have a team project, most likely made up of frequently participating members. Though more than the project it will be crucial to make sure all team members stay committed and do their assigned work. It's harder than it sounds :)

Hey guys, I've gotten a surprising but wonderful opportunity to work on a major project starting this Monday. The down side is that I won't be at my workstation during this time, i.e. project Battleship will be put on hold indefinitely...

UNLESS

If anyone wants to take this over for me I'll be happy to give you the above stuff, providing you will commit to finishing it by the deadline. I've also done some pre-composite particle explosions but they're in RF which won't open without the plugin.

I saw few members looking forward to do this one, so anyone please do it. Cause this is a great project.

Congrads Dj!! Can you tell us more about this project??

DjVoyager
12-14-2008, 08:01 AM
Thanks, BlackDeath. I haven't been told the specifics of this project yet except that it will be a blend of 2D and 3D -- 2.5D, and some artists who have worked for "certain" major studios are set to see it through. Pressure, I'm nervous and excited at the same time :)

Does that mean you won't be a D.T. moderator anymore or just be very busy and stop by from time to time?

If so, will defiantly miss you Dj, really wished we could have finished off "The Box", I still like that story line. Much success and blessings in your venture.

Thanks, BlackDeath :)

metryx, I have no plans on leaving DT yet but I really appreciate your encouraging words and blessings :).
"The Box" is still on, just postponed. Keep an eye out for more potential artists for that ;)

I like the way your boats are made
it looks like an "alien" version of Battleship or something like that
the boats are kind of futuristic a bit and the idea is pretty cool
I hope you'll give us some snapshot of the boats with their textures soon
