Well guys and girls, decided to enter this months contest with an idea I had, So heres the beginning renders, colour and displacement maps (UVing nothing special so not included):
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd305/y2jtalkder/Maps.jpg
And the first renders of the muffin itself:
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd305/y2jtalkder/Renders.jpg
SO my idea is an animation, and it will be 3 muffins on a plate that get sprinkled with dust from fantasy looking butterflies and then they will be cut open to reveal running chocolate oozing out of the centre...yummy :)
All C&Cs welcome
wow that looks absolute good.... how did you do your lightning?
greetz and good luck

thanks prld :)
That lighting is just 4 directional lights aiming at the origin where the muffin is, but I did that quickly last night for those renders...they're not permanent. Now Im going to make a proper scene and set the mood with proper lighting...which is the next job, but I dont want to run out of time so everything will be simple-ish...hopefully that sounds good :)

That looks delicious. I would recommend using a little bump in addition to the displacement map, just to push those cracks in some more, especially the top. Love the golden brown color :).

Wanted to give an update before next week, so here it is:
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd305/y2jtalkder/Scene.jpg
...still a couple things to do in scene but by tomorrow night I can hopefully post a rendered image...jut wanted to show progress.
As you can tell everything is meant to have a rustic and worn look...wood, bricks, walls etc. The only part that I wanted to have a fresh "new" look are the muffins, but Ill keep the reason a surprise for now :D
Also just to point out one thing so it makes sense, that cloth looking shape covering plate is a spiders web :)

Hey, you're going all the way with this project, aren't ya :D
But what I really wanna know is who cooks golden muffins in this medieval type kitchen.

lol DJ, yep I like to put effort in where its called for...it hasn't half taken time though, really had to work myself for this (which clever so and so said 30th for the closing date :D ) And the whole medieval kitchen thing does sort of make sense, basically its meant to be old and the food is the only thing that is knew. Also quick question...if we submit animation after 30th, say 2 days into poll will it still get 2 votes? Obviuosly ill submit pic for closing date.
Thanks everyone for your comments :) . Ive really got into this challenge and came up with a crazy idea to go along with it, but I dont know if I can pull off an animation in time...migh have to settle for a still, but I will actually complete this coz I want it for my reel.
To give some more eye candy, got some more renders here...changed the texture for the muffins, put in the scene and almost done just couple obvious things to do:

Yeah, just submit something by the deadline so I can upload it to the poll. If you want to post a newer and better render then replace the old entry with that and it will automatically update in the poll. Of course, people who have already voted won't be able to for your new image even if they like it. That's a punishment for missing the deadline :)

if you have the time try to add a smoke trail from muffins to make them look like hot.

Coming along nicely, but where went the raisins or chocolate chips (whatever they were) that were on the top.

Cheers DJ...yeah they were raisons and choc chips...just forgot to render them in the last update, but they will be in the final render later today.
And thanks blackdeath for the tip, that will actually make sense to do that...Ill see if I can include that.

nice work johnny. . .glad you enjoyed this project. . .my guess if you had to do it all over again you would not do it the same way, and perhaps improve your results.

As the saying goes, "There's always room for improvement." Of course, it also depends on the time one has. As long as you don't burn the food...;)

Thanks for the encouraging words peops :)
Yep I think the hardest thing Yesterday was getting the texture correct for the inside of the cake...took flippin ages :D ...but its worked out nicely. And of course a couple ideas came in at last minute but once that render came out the way it did...that was it had to go buy some muffins :)

Ok peops,
Its been AGES since I posted but you know how the saying goes...better late than never :)
Well I have now created the main character and re-modelled the cakes...thats it, but the butterfly was some work to get it working properly...its now fully rigged, and working lovely. Anyway some renders; birds eye, close up, full rig and test render:

Hey Lil!,
Thanks for your comments! Yep I am trying to get this one not only finished but looking good also. I dont have a very good track record with finishing things, but have made progress on this already and I just want to make some serious progress before posting a new update. Its difficult animating 6 legs on a butterfly let alone 18 (3 butterflies)...but hey the storyline keeps playing in my head and that keeps me motivated :D
