Hi all,
Everytime i reinstall Maya/Windows, or take my prefs out of MyDocumets and put them onto a new machine my icons dissapear!?!?
Dont rteally understamd this as they worked before and now when i go to choose the icon in the shelf editor Maya responds saying, not a valid icon.
Any ideas on why this is happening or there some definative settings in Photoshop (Or whatever) to create icons that Maya will like?

In Maya's directory, under extras > icons, just pull one of the bitmap images in Photoshop. Now design whatever icon you want on that, and save it with a different name. I suggested to use an already made Maya icon, and design a new layer on top of it, because of the specific size and resolution that Maya is most comfortable with.
In Maya, go to Shelf Editor by clicking on that black arrow on the left of the shelf menu. In the Shelf Editor, you will see all of the tools. Underneath each tool there is an option called "Change Image". Just press that and go to the icons folder to get your customized bitmap icon.
That's it.
Hope that helps.

hi
cheers for the reply, but the problem is not really how to create/apply the icons because I was using maya7 with a load of custom icons, i had to move computers and copied the MyDocuments/Maya folder onto the new machine, then none of the icons worked when they did before.
Weirdness

If you made these icons in a custom shelf then they should be there in the original folder, you just have to copy and paste that shelf in the new computer's Maya folder.

You'd have to load them up in Maya as well. Anything outside the main directory; load manually.
