If you don't have to google nyctophobia you win one internet.
Apologies to Gadgetfun if you think I have made something a little too similar to yours.
I prefer this one, though it is impossible to tell whats going on on my other monitor.

This guy looses a lot of the mood of the first, though at least you can see it.

That house is definitely giving off some creepy vibes. Great start!

that looks awesome! I would not want to go trick or treating there!

Yes that house is creepy...I wouldn't go trick or treating there either. But it is probably inhabited by a very sweet but severely deformed and misunderstood "monster" who wants nothing more than to relish in the
smiles and laughter of children. But since he is so deformed they just throw apples at him and run away. And he cries and cries :(

I was thinking more of a crazy old white haired lady with her trusty ol shotgun yelling "GET AWAY FROM MY BEACH HOUSE!"

Thanks Gadgetfun. If I saw Jupiter as big as that moon from earth I would be very scared indeed.
Dj. Always good to creep someone out.
Kyle. Yes and the trick is, the treat would be you!
Ignasius??? u r a :star I don't now what to say. That's exactly what I was going for. Except the way it relishes children's smiles is more in the "with a side of gizzads" kind of way. Poor monster. At least it gets free apples.
BTW good choice of words with "inhabited". Cause if you said something was "living" there, that would have been very very wrong.
Woodroe. Beach house? That made me laugh. And then i want & did some stuff. And then I thought about it again & I laughed some more :laugh

Having troubles with my "torch".
I plugged a ramp into the spotlight colour & all was fine. This is how it used to look.
http://www.whispersmith.com/images/dt/0810/goodlight.jpg
Now when I render out, the ramp texture repeats like this.

(obviously different part of scene being rendered)
Any clues?

So I struggled away with this for ages & as soon as i post here, I find the problem.
Somehow some fool (me) had managed to introduce some scaling into the render cam. Freeze transforms & back to normal.

P.S. Thanks to me for such a quick response :)

Rendering has begun, though I'm working on another project at the moment so I cant just let it run. Ho Hum, here's an update.http://www.whispersmith.com/images/dt/0810/oct04sml.jpg
Here's a bigger version (http://www.whispersmith.com/Images/Gallery/081001.jpg) .

That looks excellent!
I couldn't give a feedback earlier due to work but seems like your project is coming along smoothly :) You're gonna do an animation?
shamoii

No problems. I know the work of policing & removing the "Ukrainian monkey love" links is very important to the smooth running of the site:)
Not really an animation, just a fly through. More of a FPS, Blair witch kind of thing.

Blair Witch? You're gonna do some camera jerking movement? That would be pretty cool. FYI, I've seen the woods where the film was shot ;)

Hey I missed that update too...:-p It is very difficult for me to see...is it my monitor?
p.s. "ukranian monkey love"..thats funny I didn't see that but the spam is getting out of control. I was wondering if having one of those text verification fields when registering would stop the bots?

I don't know just how successful the camera shake is going to be, as I used a pretty non standard method. Render cam & spotlight parented to locators on a simple cloth surface. I wanted to see if it would work more than i was worried about the result.
I haven't seen the movie, but I assume those woods would have been freaky as all get up. Even the word "woods" makes me a bit jumpy.
The darkness of this scene is a real pain. It looks fine on the 22" & 30" monitors, though like I'm wearing heavy sunglasses in a cinema on the 27" & 15". All my monitors are factory default settings & I wish this wasn't such a problem, as I want to get this as dark as I can while still being comprehensible.
At one point the only light in the scene was going to be the torch. However with all the camera movement, this was going to get real confusing real fast. So I've added in 2 more lights which are designed to give a little peripheral reference, though the main focus is still meant to be constrained to that little pin hole of a torch.

If you have a Wii, you could use your Wiimote to control your camera and get a more realistic shake. :)

Actually it all depends on the season. The North East has one of the most beautiful foliage during spring and fall. Nothing compares to hiking in the woods at this time of the year.

But then the same trees shed come winter time and become like those seen in the movie. Cold and damp.

I would suggest using neutral and monotone colors. If you're using fog then silhouettes of the plants etc. can be enough.

Here's what I'm submitting. I got more rendered out, though I really needed to get the audio working otherwise it just looked daft. Sorry if it's too dark. You'll just have to imagine whats going on:)

Apologies for not responding, as I said I'm busy this month so didn't want to keep bumping my thread when I had nothing of substance to contribute.
Special thanks to danlefeb though. That wii stuff looks special. I'm considering buying a mountain of wiimotes & trying to jerry rig a mocap suit out of it. Got to be cheaper than the shop bought ones & you can go bowling between takes:)

Hey shamoii, I was getting worried that you and Ignasius became the victim of your haunted scenes. Glad to see you both emerging triumphantly out of the depths of darkness, sort of like right at the end of the movie :D
Btw, your youtube link doesn't work. Please recheck it.
I'm still downloading the 24MB one.
