Hi I study architecture and want to start modeling buildings with maya. Problems is i dont know how to import scaled drawings in properly. just placing an image in the viewplane doesnt keep the scale perfectly. I have the drawings in CAD as well. What is the best way to import and use scale drawings. :dont know

Maya is actually not designed with CAD drawing in mind, but you can still do it very well. 1 Maya UNIT is = 1 centimeter. Now you can change this (go to preferences) to meters or inches but THIS IS A BAD IDEA. I'm not sure about maya 7, but in maya 6 there were many problems with lights and camera if you do this.
Instead of trying to make the building to scale, i'd suggest you make it relativly to scale, so just assume 1 UNIT = 1 meter or 10 meters or whatever you want. Then always stick to this. I can't see any advantage to Making it perfectly to scale because the model can always be grouped and then enlarged or shrunk.
