I'm starting a new project which has a large focus on surrealism. As you might think, I'm intending to include a variety of transformation aspects in the film. I was wondering if anyone hear had any idea about ways to transform objects relatively simply.

For example, at one part in the film I have a hands reaching through the walls (as in the walls actually transforming, not just the hand clipping through the wall). However, I don't know how to do this without keying it vertex by vertex, which would kill me.

Maybe the most direct way would be to use a lattice - as the hand moves through it, it'll be squeezed by whatever shape you make the lattice. Give it a try - lattices can really do all kinds of cool things!

I haven't looked into this in detail, but i'm pretty sure I remember someone saying they animated a transformation by manually moving clusters of verts around. Hopefully not one at a time, but that might be the only way.

What about at the moment of collision replacing the "wall" with cloth ( I dont know much about xsi's cloth capabilities) Or maybe creating some sort of mesh deformation in realflow then importing it.??? Just thinking out loud.

Oops - sorry, I misread what you were asking about.
