Make rendered images into a movie

Hello!
I am totaly new to this rendering thing in maya and I just want to ask a question:

After I have rendered a animation with mental ray I´m stuck with a lot of images I can only open in Maya. This is after I have used the Harware Render Buffer and used the Render Sequence function. Is this the right way to approach or is there some other way to do it?

Hardware Render Buffer doesn't render out mental ray images. You'll need to do a Batch Render for that, after setting the Render Settings (Globals) appropriately.
If you want to change your Hardware Render Buffer file format, click on its Render menu and hit Attributes. There you can set the Image Format.

Thanks alot :-) Its rendering now. How long does this usually take if I have 1.5GB RAM?
