Hi guys :)
Have you any plans to create some After Effects tutorials?
I want to start learning how to take the models I create and add them to real-life video clips but can't find any decent tutorials anywhere on the subject!
Thanks

DT used to have video compositing tutorials but since the site's upgrade their priority is to put the 3D tutorials/kits up first. Though you can still buy their older After Effects training kits from an approved DT reseller, here's one:
http://www.pluginz.com/product/11951
And here is a list of other resellers;

I would also suggest contacting DT's customer service for any questions or concerns you may have about a certain kit.
Hope that helps :)

Hi Dj,
Thanks for the reply.
I have a tutorial similar to that one already but the 'introduction' ones seem to focus more on 2D graphics etc - I'm looking for one more towards using 3D models in real-time footage etc. For example - having raw realtime video of a tree in a park and have a creature emerge from behind the tree.
Are there any plans for DT to create similar types of tutorials in the future maybe?
Thanks

They might, though we'd probably know after Siggraph.
I use After Effects for all my video editing and FX, but opt not to use actual 3D models in the compositions. First off, AE is not really equipped to handle complex 3D. You can give an illusion of 3D by using the 3D layer mode but it's not in 3D space. Secondly, CG artists are always looking for ways to cut down render time as well as speed up the work flow, and bringing 3D into AE will do the opposite. You're better off exporting image sequences from a 3D application and composing it with other layers in AE, for example the tree could be a foreground layer while the creature (animated sequence) will be in the middle.
Hope that makes sense :)
Yep,
We'll have a lot of AE stuff out soon. We are currently working with Fusion because of their good 3d support.

now that would be a cool kit! I am really interested in learning fusion though to and am happy to hear about that kit coming out! Since they do have the 3d support! :) Neat stuff

I'm an AE artist re-visiting Maya after having taken it in college years ago. DT has helped me get up and running really fast! However like Bart2k3, I look forward to incorporating Maya and AE, as motion graphics artists/video editors are expected to take their work to new heights. My co-workers use Cinema 4D and 3DS Max. I've noticed that Andrew Kramer uses 3DS Max with AE a lot, and his work looks amazing.
I would love to re-learn the basics of Maya, then learn it from a video motion graphics angle...if that makes sense.

Integrating passes from maya and dealing with some practical problem solving issues would be a good idea.

Hi million,
We have two training solutions aimed at this exact problem:
Compositing 3D Renders in After Effects (http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=26&pid=203)
Advanced Compositing Workflows with Maya and After Effects (http://www.digitaltutors.com/09/training.php?cid=26&pid=222)
