What you will learn
In this tutorial, we will learn about maquette modeling workflows as well as concept drawing, sculpting, and presenting.
Throughout these lessons, we will understand the process about how to create a visual concept image, and turn it into a 3D maquette in ZBrush. We will cover everything from understanding the concept to converting it with DynaMesh, and create a presentation image for a client. A lot of conceptual modeling workflow tips will be covered in this tutorial, which can improve anyone's ZBrush modeling skills.
Hi. This lesson, I would to show you how to make a turntable move in ZBrush. So we've pretty much done all the work from the last lesson. So this time, we've tried to make some turntable render for the client. What does that mean when the turntable renders? It means, like, a motor turntable [INAUDIBLE] 360 degrees. So we can see where is the proportions right, and would the client like it or not. So that's what you generally make the turntable as a modeler. Actually, ZBrush, it has the menu. So you don't have to go to the other applications, like such as Maya or 3ds Max. You can actually [INAUDIBLE] everything in ZBrush. And you can it to the client right away. So in order to do this, you have to find the menu, Movie. So basically Movie does all the work. But before we set it up through the Movie, let's make the document first, because the standard format with the HD is 1920 by 1080. So let's change that one first. If you go to the document, there's-- unlock this one. And let's change the number, 1920 and 1080. When you've done it-- ah, sorry, it's up here-- press Resize. So they're warning you. You really want to resize? Yes. So this is not the real proportion in anything. This is just a little glitch. So you just press Control N, make a new. And zooming out so you can pretty much see everything. So now we draw it on the templates on there. So [INAUDIBLE] 3D is coming up. So press Edit, or you can press T. So now some [INAUDIBLE] on the HD program. So you can sent it to HD [INAUDIBLE] to clients. That's the proper way to go. So now we set up the document, so let's set up the other one, Movie. You can just grab the menu in here, throw in. The Movie menu in here. So I'll try to explain to you, because we make the HD [INAUDIBLE], so based on document, that window, because if you press Window, they're gonna recut everything you're seeing. So we need the document to size. The document is like what we define the size and widths. So this is gonna be 1920 by 1080 HD [INAUDIBLE] render. Press Document, and press [INAUDIBLE]. So they're gonna record everything. And let's expand those two. [INAUDIBLE] the menu in here, because they're gonna capture all your mouse cursors. So if you're moving your mouse, something like that, they're gonna capture on the video, so turning up everything. And there's the screen frame. It's 180 frames. So if you want to make it longer, just change [INAUDIBLE]. Or you want to make the [INAUDIBLE] cycle, you can change the cycle here as well. And you don't have to change anything around here. And there's another one. Sorry. Overlay Image. What Overlay Image does, they are registering the Overlay Image around here. So if you have an emblem or logo, if you want, you can just change the menu, the other texture you made before, and [INAUDIBLE] it. And you can put it on here. But some people do that. But if you doesn't want it, just bring the opacity down, so basically showing anything. And the other one, [INAUDIBLE], you can actually showing the logo. So even this logo, you can actually change it as well. So you can press it and select any row you want. Or you can make them yourself and just bring it here and change it. Or you can type the name, like White Boar. You can change the [INAUDIBLE] as well. So this is gonna be showing in the front. So you can change the FadeIn time, FadeOut time too. So it's gonna be the nice transition. But usually we export the turntable thing as the sequence image, so as the sequence image like here. When they finish the rotation, like our next rotation coming up, it means it's like a looping. So if you make some FadeIn, FadeOut, something title image going around, it's gonna be showing the title image every single loop. Like, when the loop started, they're showing the title image. Again and again and again. So personally I don't like it. If you don't like it, just turn off everything. So it's gonna be this up here. But in order to show you just like we're showing the FadeIn, FadeOut, there's a five and two. So let's start with [INAUDIBLE]. And you can select the body, so just basically on the center. So they're gonna rotate that way. So when you've done it, there's two ways to go. The other way is you can just press the turntable. When you press turntable, it's starts right away. OK, it's done. It's pretty fast. Because we didn't set it up as a very high-resolution thing, this is pretty much just showing the turntable basically. Like, you can pretty much see 360 degrees, every single frame showing every single degree angle. So when you've done it, there's an option-- Play Movie or Export and Save As. You can simply press the button, Play Movie. That will show you what exactly what you recorded it for. So when you press it, my resolution is a bit smaller, but basically this is how it looks like. So I told you the title image is very annoying, because [INAUDIBLE] the five frame first and five frame back. So I personally don't like it. So if you don't like it, just turn it off and make the turntable again. So it's so much better. So a clear image you actually want, just turn off everything, just press the turntable. So when you finish the turntable, the image is actually still on the cache. So if you want to make the new one, you can actually press the turntable again. But before you press the turntable, just press the delete. It deletes every single thing on the cache, and make the new turntable. After that, there's two ways to save. Save As is the [INAUDIBLE] way to save. So you can save as a ZMovie, .zmv is kind of your name. But if you export it out, save as this way, you can always bring it back as load movie. So this is kind of convenient. But [INAUDIBLE] using that function. We always export it out-- export MOV. MOV is the very easy way to share the movie, and you can actually see the images as well. So you can press button and save it. And they will let you know what kind of codec you want. So basically, H264 is the best way to go. Sorry for the Korean version. But just like here, don't worry about anything. OK, your [INAUDIBLE] export is done. So you can pretty much see the MOV file and another movie. So your turntable is ready. If you want to make something better and looks nicer, but it's taking a little bit longer, there's a way to do, is press the render menu, and [INAUDIBLE] under Preview. So Preview can pretty much see all the shape and silhouette, everything without problems. So if [INAUDIBLE] to just showing the [INAUDIBLE] the Print Preview is pretty much showing everything. But if you have something a bit nicer, maybe I'm considering press the Best, because when you press the Best, they calculate the GI and the light shadow better, also [INAUDIBLE]. So you can pretty much see [INAUDIBLE] more intense and it's been more nicer. So in that way, you can actually delete the cache you made before, and just press the turntable again. They start another turntable. But I guarantee it's going to take over an hour, because every single frame, they calculate it and reset at the [INAUDIBLE] 180 frame. So it's going to take a little bit longer. But sometimes I recommend you, press the setup as the Best. And that's pretty much it. Thanks for watching. Thank you, bye.
