In this tutorial, we will learn the methods that were used to rig the transforming robot. Throughout these lessons, we will learn the tools and techniques used in the setup process of both our robot and truck. The goal is to break this complex idea down into a simple, and manageable form. We'll cover the rigging process in its entirety, and along this journey, we'll be introduced to several tools that will help make this all come together efficiently. By the end of the course, you'll have the set of skills needed to rig your own transforming robot.
In this lesson, we will dynamically parent the arms to the robot's chest. So we'll go ahead and do this one control at a time, that way, each of our controls, including the elbow controls, have their own blend parameter. So we'll grab the chest control-- start with the left elbow and run our dynamic parent tool. Let's go ahead and do that for the left arm control. We can just press the G key. It saves us so much time. All right. We need to do this one more time. So here's the cool part. Now, if we were to take the chest and twist in the y-axis, this gives you an idea of how we can have the robot transform. So in vehicle mode, he can be turned 180 degrees to face behind him. However, the rest of the body's pointed forward, and then we can use the center of gravity control to rotate him down to fit within the vehicle. So this is really neat stuff. All right. Great. Let's say we go ahead and bring him back. It's not time for animation just yet, but again, that just gives you an idea of what we can do. That's something we want to think about when building these transforming robots is how to get very creative with the transformations that will eventually prove something that's entertaining. All right. Well, that's it for this lesson. So in the next lesson, we're ready to work on the fingers. After the fingers are finished, we can create a piston rig. So that'll be another cool topic. And we'll also create a few global controls. We'll discuss something very important about building those objects and preparation to our shot sequence. And then after we're finished with that, of course, we can move to rigging the vehicle. So again, we just have a few more things to cover before the rigging portion of this production series is finished.
