In this tutorial, we will learn the methods that were used to rig the transforming robot. Throughout these lessons, we will learn the tools and techniques used in the setup process of both our robot and truck. The goal is to break this complex idea down into a simple, and manageable form. We'll cover the rigging process in its entirety, and along this journey, we'll be introduced to several tools that will help make this all come together efficiently. By the end of the course, you'll have the set of skills needed to rig your own transforming robot.
Let's create a Center-of-gravity control. So this control object will drive the entire torso. Let's go ahead and head over to our front view. And we're going to build out an arrow shape that points at the center of gravity. And we'll mirror that across to attach the shapes and get everything else parented together in order to finish off this control so we can move on to our neck and head rig. Let's go ahead and grab our CV-curve tool. It's still set to linear. And we're just going to go ahead and create an arrow shape. OK. At this point, I'll go ahead and center its pivot and move back over to the perspective view. Go ahead and move it forward so it points at the hip. And then you can reshape it if you like-- maybe scale it up a little bit larger. And now we'll use our Mirror tool to mirror the control over. Great. All right. At this point let's go ahead and pick which one will be named center of gravity. Let's say the one on the left here. That's going to be cccog01. Now that means we just need to grab the other shape-- make sure that's selected first. Grab the shape that will be the parent and use our Parent Shape tool. OK. So next, we'll need to correct its pivot. Let's go ahead and hide our robot. So hide polys. We'll go to Pivot mode and snap over to our hip joint. Great. So let's go ahead and show polys again. I'd almost like to move the curves back a little bit more, which we can do with no problem at all. Simply select both. Just go ahead and drag them back so they're centered a little bit better. All right, great. Let's check our outliner, and let's make sure that this is stored underneath our Controls group. And now to clean this up, we'll get rid of our scale and visibility channels. All right. Our last steps will be to recolor this and then make sure that we parent our Hip and Chest controls. We can take care of recoloring. Go to our first tab. That's going to be yellow. Great. Let's go ahead and grab our Hip control and parent to the COG. And now remember, with our Chest control, we actually have a group above it. We'll the up arrow to get to its group and make sure that's parented to the COG. If we were to now start to move this around, our robot is dancing. All right. All right. This is cool stuff. We are moving along very well with our rig. So this is neat. And with that finish, that concludes this lesson. We're ready to start thinking about a really neat head control system, and we'll start on that in the following lesson.
